Abstract

Far enough from the Planck scale and within the context of a quantum field 
theory in a curved spacetime (semi-classical approximation), are quantum 
effects (vacuum polarisation and particle production) so important as to 
justify the need for a back-reaction calculation? What can we say about 
the validity of the semi-classical approximation in the framework of a 
semi-classical formalism?
