Abstract

One of the major advantages of the inflationary scenario is that it
provides a mechanism for the generation of density perturbations in the
early universe. These perturbations leave an imprint on the cosmic
background radiation which has been observed. It has been shown that
physical processes at and beyond the Planck scale could affect the
spectrum of the density perturbations and thus leave an imprint on the
cosmic background radiation. The questions of what types of imprints are
possible and under what conditions they can be observed will be addressed.
