                                    Resum

   The possibility to observe matter effects in neutrino oscillations from
 initial muon neutrinos is discussed for Earth baselines. The physics of the
problem suggests a no-go theorem. The way out to this is found. A magnetized
      iron detector for baselines above 7000 Km can detect fake CPT odd
 asymmetries for the survival probabilities of neutrinos and antineutrinos.
 The asymmetry is sensitive to both the sign of the neutrino mass difference
   and the connecting mixing (1,3) between solar neutrino and atmospheric
                             neutrino sectors.
