Abstract

The seminar comprises a rather general introduction to the CMS tracker. I 
will present the general design and its performance determined from 
simulation. I will moreover give an overview of the current status of the 
production. In the second part of the seminar I will discuss in more 
detail the role of the tracker in the online event selection (trigger). 
Nearly all CMS High Level Trigger algorithms depend critically on track 
and vertex reconstruction in the inner detector. The performance of 
several fast tracking algorithms is discussed, as well as that of two 
trigger algorithms - based on online tau and b-jet tagging.
