Abstract
Extra-dimensional quantum field theories compactified on orbifolds
naturally i nclude local brane kinetic terms at the orbifold fixed points.
- We study the particular example of 5D Yang-Mills theories compactified
on an S1/Z_2 orbifold. We describe the consistent quantization of these
theories before the Kaluza Klein reduction. Based on the underlying Ward
and Slavnov Taylor identities, we present an all-order proof of a
generalized equivalence theorem. The theorem relates scattering amplitudes
of longitudinal Kaluza-Klein gauge bosons to amplitudes of the
corresponding scalar modes and ensures the high energy unitarity of these
theories. We point out that our results are not specific to
compactifications on S1/Z_2, but hold for any of the 19 possible 1D or 2D
orbifolds.
