Abstract
We have performed a theoretical study of charged and neutral current
neutrino-nucleus interactions in the neutrino energy region of interest
for current (K2K, MiniBooNE) and future (MINERvA, FINeSSE) experiments. At
these energies, the dominant elementary mechanisms are quasielastic
scattering and the excitation of the Delta(1232) resonance. We describe
neutrino nucleon collisions with a relativistic formalism which
incorporates empirical parameterizations of the form factors for both the
nucleon and the N-Delta transition. Then, we take into account the effect
of the nuclear medium: Fermi motion, Pauli blocking , nuclear binding and
the the in-medium modification of the Delta resonance. Final state
interactions are implemented by means of a coupled-channel semiclassical
transport model which allows us to study exclusive channels such as pion
production and nucleon knockout. We have also investigated the role of
polarization effects(nuclear RPA correlations) in the specific conditions
of the MiniBooNE experiment. Finally, we have studied coherent pion
production, taking proper care of the distortion of the outgoing pion by
solving the Klein-Gordon equation with a realistic pion-nucleus optical
potential.
