Abstract
Hadronic bound states of heavy quark constituents are characterized by a
large separation of mass scales: the heavy quark mass scale is much larger
than the scale \Lambda_{QCD} associated with the light degrees of freedom.
HQET provides a tool to separate the physics associated with the two
scales. The evaluation of amplitudes in HQET should be carried out at the
non-perturbative level, while the matching to the full theory is in
principle affected by short-distance physics only. In this context lattice
field theory methods and non-perturbative renormalization techniques
represent an invaluable tool to obtain precise theoretical predictions of
quantities such as heavy quark masses or decay constants. We present a
fully non-perturbative computation of the renormalization group invariant
mass of the b-quark in the quenched approximation and including the terms
of order \Lambda^2/mb.
