Abstract

The hadronic vacuum polarization contribution to the (g-2) is the source
of the largest uncertainty in the Standard Model calculation. Its
evaluation is based on data on $e^+ e^- \to$ hadrons (or $\tau$ hadronic
decays). I will discuss a method to evaluate the dominant contribution of
two pions below 1 GeV which relies on data, but uses also theoretical
input, namely, chiral symmetry, analyticity and unitarity. It will be
shown, in particular, that the bound on the inelastic contributions
discussed by Eidelman and Lukaszuk plays an important role.
